When we travel, don´t litter and spit in public places, don´t damage public property, don´t take other people´s photos without permission, don´t buy fakes, and at the same time, obey the traffic rules.

Step 1Revision

Revise the past tense with some past events

Step 2Presentation

1. Show some pictures about travel and visits. Let the students watch, read and understand them.

2. Focus attention on the pictures. Ask the students what they see? Tell them that each picture shows something a person did in the past. Ask the student to read the phrases below.

stayed at home, went to New York City, visited my uncle, went to summer camp, went to mountains, went to the beach, visited museums

3. Ask the students match each phrase with one of the pictures next to the name of the activity.

5. Ask the students about their travel

T: Classmates, did you travel on vacation?

Ss: Yes, I did.

T: Where did you go on vacation?

S1: I went to mountains.

S2: I went to summer camp.

S3: I went to the beach.

T: Then, did you spit here and there?

Ss: No, I didn´t.

T: Did you have a great time?

Ss: Oh, yes.

T: So, did you throw rubbish everywhere?

Ss: No, I didn´t.

T: Very good! You did a great job. What good students you are! Classmates, now people that like going travelling become more and more. Although it is good for the society and the economy, it causes lots of problems at the same time. For example, some travelers throw rubbish everywhere and pollute the environment. Some spit here and there. Some make noise in public places. These make our environment worse and worse. Classmates, these behaviors are all against the law. In the future, when you go on a trip again, don´t litter and spit in order to protect our environment.

Step 31b

1. Ask the students to look at the pictures. Ask them where the persons went on vacation and What the persons in the pictures did.

2. Play the recording in 1b for the students to listen and judge. Let them write numbers of the names in the right boxes of the picture.

3. Check the answers with the students.

Step 41c

1. First play the recording in 1b again and let the students read after it. Do it at least twice. Let the students understand the conversations in 1b.Then read the instructions together with the whole class.

2. Let the students work with partners and make their own conversations using the conversations in 1b as an example. Move around the room offering language support as needed.

3. Let some pairs act out their conversations.

S1: Where did you go on vacation?

S2: I went to Beijing with my family.

S1: Did you have a good time?

S2: Oh, yes. Everything was wonderful. Where did you go?

S1: I went to Guiyang.

After the first pair finishes their conversation, the teacher asks the next pair to say their conversation to the class.

S3: Where did you go on vacation?

S4: I visited my uncle.

S3: And did you do anything interesting?

S4: Yes. We often went out for a walk. Sometimes we played chess.

After the second pair finishes their conversation, the teacher asks another pair to say their conversation to the class.

S5: Did you go anywhere on vacation?

S6: I went to summer camp.

S5: Did you go with anyone?

S6: Yes. I went with my friends. We had a great time. Where did you do on vacation?

S5: Nothing. I only stayed at home.

S6: And did you do anything interesting?

S5: Yes. I played with my cousin. We hung out in the street. Sometimes we rode bikes.

T: Wow! You had a good time. Be careful when you ride a bike, keep to the right. When you hang out and reach a crossroads, you must stop if the traffic lights turn red.

Step 52a

1. Tell the students that they will hear a conversation about three students´ conversations. Then play the recording for the students to Listen .Complete the chart.

1. Let the students read the phrases in the chart of 2b.

2. Play the recording to Listen again and check(√) Yes, I did or No, I didn´t for each question.

Step 72c

1. First play the recording in 2b again and let the students read after it. Do it at least twice. Let the students understand the conversations between Grace, Kevin and Julie.

2. Let the students work in pairs and make conversations by role-play the conversations between Grace, Kevin and Julie. As they communicate with each other, move around the classroom and give any help they need.

3. After the students finish talking, the teacher first finds a student to act out a conversation.

T: Where did you go on your vacation?

S7: I went to the mountains.

T: Did you go with anyone?

S7: Yes, I went with my friends.

T: How was the scenery in the mountains.

S7: It was wonderful

T: Oh, that´s nice. Did you do anything interesting?

S7: Yes, we did. We sang in the mountains.

T: Well, did you dance there?

S7: No, we didn´t.

T: Did you write and draw on stones and rocks?

S7: NO, we didn´t.

T: Did you carve on tree trunks?

S7: No, we didn´t.

T: Good! You did a great job. Stones, rocks and trees in the mountains are all national public property. Be careful. Don´t write and draw on those stones and those rocks. Don´t carve on tree trunks. If someone does so, hewill break the law because of damages of public property.

Then ask some pairs to act out their conversations.

S8: Where did you go on vacation?

S9: I went to Beijing.

S8: Oh, really? Did you go with anyone?

S9: Yes, I went with my parents.

S8: Did you go to Tian´anmen Square

S9: Yes, I did. It was really nice.

S8: Did you buy anything special?

S9: Yes. I bought something for my cousin

S8: Oh, really? What?

After the first pair finishes their conversation, the teacher asks the next pair to say their conversation to the class.

S9: I bought him a pen.

S10: Where did you go on your vacation?

S11: I went to the beach.

S10: Oh, that´s nice. Did you have a great time?

S11: Yes. Everything was excellent.

S10: Well, did you dance there?

S11: No, I didn´t.

S10: How was the scenery there

S11: It was very beautiful.

S10:Wow! Did you swim?

S11: Yes, I did. It was comfortable to swim there.

Step 82d

1. First ask a pair of students to read the conversation to the class, then let the students match the people and places they went.

2. Explain the usages of indefinite pronouns and indefinite adverbs. Tell the students that the students must put adjectives behind indefinite pronouns and indefinite adverbs when adjectives qualify indefinite pronouns and indefinite adverbs. Such as something good, anything special and anywhere interesting.

3. Explain the usages of the phrase quite a few to the students.

T: Quite a few means too many. Quite a few qualify countable nouns. For example, He ate quite a few potatoes. I have quite a few books.

4. Ask the students to make conversations by role-play the conversations in 2d. Encourage them to ask as many questions as they can. As they communicate with each other, move around the classroom and give any help they need.

5. After they all finish talking, the teacher finds a student to act out a conversation.

T: Hi, Long time no see.

S12: Hi, yes, I was on vacation last month.

T: Oh, did you go anywhere interesting?

S12: Yes, I went to the mountains with my parents.

T: Wow! Did you enjoy yourselves?

S12: Yes. Everything was excellent.

T: Did you take any photos?

S12: Yes. We took lots of photos.

T: Did you take other people´s photos.

S12: No, we didn´t.

T: Oh, good! Everyone enjoys the right to portrait. Don´t take other people´s photos without permission. If someone does that, he will break the law.

T: Did you find unhealthy food and fake food on sale.

S12: No, I didn´t.

T: You are careful. Don´t buy unhealthy food and fake food that will cause a stomachache to eat in order to keep fit. Selling fake food is against the law. If you find the behavior, report it in time.

Then ask some pairs to say their conversation to the class.

S13: Hi, Long time no see.

S14: Hi. Yes, I was on vacation.

S13: Oh, did you go anywhere interesting?

S14: Yes, I went to Qianling Park with my family.

S13: Wow! Did you see any animals?

After the first pair finishes their conversation, the teacher asks the next pair to say their conversations to the class.

S15: Hi, Long time no see.

S16: Hi. Yes, I was on vacation.

S15: Well, so, where did you go?

S16: I went to Hainan province with my family.

S15: Wow! Did you see the sea?

S16: Yes, I did. It was fascinating. We swam in the sea. Where did you go?

S15: I went to summer camp.

S16: Oh, did you go with anyone?

S15: Yes, I went with my friends.

S16: Well. So, did you do anything special?

S15: We sang and danced. We had a great time.

Step 9Homework

1. Let the students ask their friends where they went on vacation and what they saw.For example,

2. Write a story with the target language.

3. Revise when to use the past tense.

4. Make sentences using the phrases quite a few, most of the time, on vacation, study for test and stay at.
